MILWAUKEE – Tonight the AP projected that Susan Crawford has been elected to serve as the next justice for the state Supreme Court.
ACLU of Wisconsin Executive Director Dr. Melinda Brennan released the following statement:
“While we saw an outpouring of money thrown into this race by billionaires, the people with the real power in this election were Wisconsin voters. We are so proud that Wisconsin voters realized the high stakes of the election and turned out, sending a loud and clear message: Wisconsinites' votes are not for sale. Wisconsin voters made their voices heard in this crucial Supreme Court election that will shape the future of Wisconsin, particularly surrounding reproductive rights.
“During this election cycle, we, along with the national ACLU and ACLU Voter Education Fund, ensured that Wisconsinites knew the facts about the candidates, as well as the critical role the court plays in shaping our civil rights and civil liberties. We reached over 600,000 voters by knocking on doors, making phone calls, educating Wisconsinites, and launching a campaign to make sure Wisconsinites were prepared to vote for their values this election.
“Judging by the outcome of this election, it is clear that access to abortion, protecting Wisconsin’s workers, and making sure Wisconsinites can fairly cast their ballot were all a priority for Wisconsinites.”
