On February 27, 2024, over 50 community members, volunteers, staff, and partners came together for an evening of fun, camaraderie and spirited competition, as the ACLU of Wisconsin hosted its first Voting Rights Trivia Night at the Cactus Club in Milwaukee’s historic Bay View neighborhood.
Throughout the evening, teams put their knowledge to the test as they tackled trivia questions spanning a wide range of topics from pop-culture to politics; from Ru Paul’s Drag Race to down ballot local elections taking place this spring. Laughter filled the air as our MC, Brittany Morgan, joked with the lively crowd, and announced raffle and door prize winners, donated by generous local businesses.
Kelsey Kaufman, owner of the Cactus Club, generously donated her space, which provided the perfect backdrop for the night. As an LGBTQ+ owned bar with a history of supporting social justice initiatives, the Cactus Club embodies the working class roots of the community and the values that are at the core of our work at the ACLU.
Beyond the thrill of the game, the true highlight of the evening was the sense of community that permeated through the cozy confines of the Cactus Club. It was inspiring to see individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities coming together in solidarity despite the bizarre weather and the often draining political climate.
We are immensely grateful to everyone who attended our Voting Rights Trivia Night, whether as a participant, volunteer, sponsor or supporter. Your generosity and dedication make it possible for us to continue our vital work in advocating for justice, equality, and civil liberties in Wisconsin and beyond.
