On May 17, 2014, groups of students, families, community supporters, and educators from public schools will lead a parade from Martin Luther King Park on 14th and Vliet Street to the Milwaukee High School of the Arts. The parade will celebrate opportunities offered by our public schools in the arts, music, physical education and sports, world languages, and libraries. It will celebrate local partnerships that support healthy children and strong communities. If you or your school would like to join in the parade festivities, please register here.
After the parade, Schools and Communities United will release our community’s vision for “The Schools and Communities that Milwaukee’s Children Deserve,” a platform for educational fairness and community improvement created with input from thousands of local residents.
Finally, parents, students, neighbors, educators, legislators, and community leaders will come together for a working lunch and organizing session. Together we will kick off a campaign for revitalizing our community, fighting segregation and racism, and creating diverse public schools that serve all children. Please register for this exciting event here!
