A state licensing board called the Marriage and Family Therapy, Professional Counseling, and Social Work Examining Board adopted licensing rules to ban the harmful practice of conversion therapy in Wisconsin.
In January 2023, the Joint Committee on Review of Administrative Rules voted to block this conversion therapy ban. ACLU-WI issued a statement condemning this vote.
The Assembly voted on March 14, 2023 and the Senate voted on March 22, 2023 to send these bills back to committee, which avoids the potential of Governor Evers vetoing the bill and blocks the conversion therapy ban for the remainder of the 2023-24 legislative session.
