Failed to pass both houses, will not become law this session

This bill would require public and charter schools to report certain incidents to law enforcement, mandate the presence of an armed school resource officer (SRO) based on the number of incidents, and require schools to pay for armed police with pandemic assistance funds.

There is little to no credible evidence that SROs increase school safety and instead undermine school climate and criminalize students. Research shows armed cops in schools disproportionately target students of color, students with disabilities, and students of color with disabilities.
