Dr. Hereth has served on the ACLU of Wisconsin Board of Directors since 2023.
Dr. Jane Hereth is an assistant professor in the Social Work Department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Their research examines the determinants and impacts of social and structural exclusion, interpersonal victimization, and criminal legal system involvement on the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQIA+) youth. Dr. Hereth’s research and teaching are informed by her social work practice with LGBTQIA+ youth and survivors of victimization.
Dr. Hereth received the Outstanding Research Award from the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare in 2022 and the Award for Distinguished Feminist Scholarship and Praxis in Social Work from the journal Affilia: Feminist Inquiry in Social Work in 2020.
They're inspired and motivated by all of the ACLU of Wisconsin's work, with a particular passion for LGBTQIA rights, racial justice, ending mass incarceration, and reproductive justice.
