The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin (ACLU) has hired University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate Kara Coates as its new finance and administration manager.   Kara will be responsible for helping the ACLU of Wisconsin to make recent growth efficient and sustainable. Working closely with the organization’s executive and development staff, Kara will play a leadership role and will help staff, board members, and volunteers work strategically.

Kara holds a master’s degree in business from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA and a bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management with a certificate in women’s studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Additionally, Kara is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, with a strong background in non-profit organizational management and financial reporting.

“My colleagues in other organizations look to me not only as a financial expert, but also a strategic resource,” Kara said.  “Working with the ACLU team, I am certain I will be able to continue to emphasize a balance between sustainability and growth.”

“At this important time of growth for the ACLU, I’m really excited that someone with Kara’s expertise as a CPA and an MBA has joined our staff,” said Chris Ott, ACLU of Wisconsin Executive Director.
