UPDATE: On September 18, 2023, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin resumed abortion care.

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on June 24, 2022, dismantling the constitutional protections for abortion that have existed for nearly 50 years, abortion providers ceased abortion care in Wisconsin for fear of prosecution under a law from 1849. Attorney General Josh Kaul filed a lawsuit challenging this ban, and in July, 2023, a judge ruled that the law does not apply to "consensual abortions" but rather to feticide usually "by assaulting and battering the mother."
